A Little Texas in The Big Apple...

Curtis Howard (he/him) is an NYC-based actor, dancer, mime, hat juggler, creative producer, choreographer, director, and theatre maker…painter, sculptor, mask maker, sourdough baker, and, and, and….

From the little village of Tehuacana, Texas, pop—279, just 6 miles from Mexia, the hometown of Anna Nicole Smith. Curtis has always been a creative person, from drawing his own comic books to de/reconctructing his GI Joes to his Construx toys. He was always taking things apart, painting them, adapting them, and gluing them back together to make something new, something that fit his vision. Something better than capitalism had sold him.

He brought that creative eye to McLennan Community College in Waco, where he studied costuming and set construction, and his martial arts background helped him excel in dance. Soon, he was studying at Houston Ballet, then at the Broadway Theatre Project with Anne Reinking, Ben Vereen, and Gregory Hines, then with his mentor, Chet Walker, at Jacob’s Pillow, and later with his most influential teacher, Luigi.

Now he’s a Mime with The American Mime Theater, the Creative Producer for Cole Jazz, and a professional clown.

Curtis can do it all, from directing and choreographing musicals and concert dance for NYC festivals and Edinburgh Theatre Fest to set design and construction in the off-Broadway world to costumes and headdresses for Ringing Bros Circus.

Curtis describes his work as "dancing-plays," where the dancing is as much a part of the story as the words. He began creating and producing new theatre works with a "dancing-play" tribute to his teacher, the legendary jazz dancer Eugene “Luigi” Louis Facciuto.

He saw the quarantine as an opportunity to be a better Producer when he discovered the CUNY Baccalaureate Program, where he custom-designed a BA in the Business of Dance Production. He knocked out 55+ hours in 15 months with a 3.91 GPA, culminating in him producing an original dancing-play, The Golden Handcuffs, about shit-ass life in restaurants.

Since finishing his degree, he has been steadily working in all facets of theatre from Technical Directing for The Tank and Target Margin Theatre (The Lydian-Gale Parr), Theatre Now New York (Powerline Road) and Face to Face Films (Shadows) to Production Manager (Relapse) to directing, choreographing, and performing in Igor Stravinsky’s: A Soldier’s Tale with Village Verein Orchestra to being the creative producer for Cole Jazz and the NEW Jack Cole Dancers.

He's incredibly proud to have worked with Slovo. Theatre Group on MOTHERMOTHERLAND. Slovo. Theatre Group is a collection of Ukrainian Refugees and an infant who make theatre. And their return to NYC with CP4P International Productions of I will dance with those oak trees as long as

He was a ringmaster in the outdoor circus Stars Above, where he toured New England with his sourdough starter. It’s here he picked up hat juggling and his hashtag: #ringmastersourdough.

Additionally, he has appeared Off-Off-Broadway in DEDALUS LOUNGE (with Anthony Rapp) and Abingdon Theatre Company's MARATHON '33, New York Musical Festival's REALLY BAD THINGS, and regionally. He has choreographed for companies including The Amoralists, Royal Family Productions, New York Jazz Choreography Enterprises, The Children's Theatre Company, The Edinburgh Theatre Festival, Luigi's Jazz Centre, and LEAP.

He is an original member of the Broadway COVID Safety Team, where he was person who started: "Welcome Back to Broadway!!"
